The Beauty of Wool

Thyme sits on the eastern edge of the Cotswolds, an area of outstanding natural beauty, a green and verdant idyll, rich in history, its landscape shaped by sheep. First brought to Britain by the Romans over 2000 years ago, its wool trade was the envy of the world and created great riches. The wealth built a landscape of tall church spires, bustling market towns, great manorial estates and bucolic honey stoned villages, wool was exported to Europe, highly prized by the best Italian, French, Dutch and Belgian Mills and it was said that wool made up half the wealth of England.
Although wool no longer enjoys such economic power, the value of a fleece reduced to a few pence, it most certainly deserves to be celebrated.
Wool is an abundant, natural, renewable, fully bio-degradable fibre.
It wicks water and has anti-microbial properties, resisting mildew and mould as well as being non-allergenic, resilient and durable. It’s lustrous and beautiful, keeping you both warm and cool.
When developing our new BERTIOLI range of bathing and breathing products we wanted to create something special and true to Thyme’s ethos. With sustainability at its heart we have developed our cleansing and conditioning hair and body bars that are really luxurious and effective, and eliminate the plastic waste widely associated with bathroom products.
Pursuing our mission to eliminate waste, we have developed little wool felt pouches and felt wash mitt that are perfect for popping in the annoying little end pieces so that you can easily use every last bit, the wool helping to create a silky, moisturising lather that together wash, gently exfoliates and nourishes the skin. It can also be used to transport your bar in your wash bag.
We celebrate sheep throughout Thyme. Our wonderful flock of rare breed welsh black mountain sheep set the scene as you approach and when you arrive in the barns, we hope our sheep seats will make you smile.
