Join luxury and sustainability specialist Tiffanie Darke; fashion stylist and editor Bay Garnett; Alex McIntosh, founder of Create Sustain, and Ruth Rands, founder of regenerative knitwear brand HERD for an illuminating and lively discussion on this challenging topic.

Our illustrious panel will share their thoughts on the emergence of ‘thrifting, the complexities behind building a sustainable brand with a healthy ecosystem, holding big brands to task and crucially, how to shop now. Here at Thyme this September, we will help you make the best decisions for the planet.

Tiffanie Darke

Tiffanie Darke is a luxury and sustainability specialist, and the author of What to Wear, Your Guilt Free Guide to Sustainable Fashion. She writes regularly for the Financial Times and the Guardian, and co-runs a shop in Ibiza, AGORA, that curates best in class sustainable fashion. She is also currently Interim CEO of Smart Works Charity.


Bay Garnett

Bay Garnett is a freelance fashion stylist, author, editor, creative director and advocate for sustainability in fashion. She pioneered the idea of "thrifting", the art of shopping in second-hand stores, as being relevant to high fashion by including items she had found in magazine shoots. Garnett is the Senior Independent Fashion Advisor for Oxfam. Her thrift-inspired work is credited with having made its way into mainstream fashion - incorporating new second hand in publications such as British Vogue, Italian Vogue, the Evening Standard, FT How To Spend it and many more. In 2020 Garnett created a luxury Oxfam pop up shop in London’s Selfridges, and in November 2021, Garnett spoke on a panel at COP26 in Glasgow on ways to decarbonise the fashion industry.


Alex McIntosh

Alex is the founder of Create Sustain, a creative consultancy working with businesses to influence positive culture change by encouraging customers to connect and contribute, not just consume. clients include Acne studios, Estee lauder, Diesel, Jil Sander, Luisa Via Roma, Mulberry, Yoox-Net-a-Porter and more. Alex was one of the original members of The Centre for Sustainable Fashion at The University of the Arts London and directed the Fashion Futures Masters programme. He was Managing Director of the pioneering brand Raeburn and has mentored many other start-ups, working with The Ethical Fashion Forum, The British Fashion Council and Enterprise UK. Alex has also written for a number of publications on the topic of fashion and sustainability, and in 2011 developed and authored the year-long i-Sustain series for i-D magazine. In 2019, The Evening Standard named Alex as one of ten stars of sustainable fashion.


Ruth Rands

Ruth Rands is an activist entrepreneur, founding two successful businesses that make beautiful things which champion regenerative natural resources and the landscapes, animals and people that make them. She has now brought her understanding of supply chains, traceability, labelling and certifications to the fashion textiles system - starting with wool, through HERD, a pioneering sustainable yarn & knitwear brand. Ruth has built a collective of farmers, graders, scourers, spinners and dyers in one bioregion to support her vision of a circular, regenerative fashion ecosystem, a network of naturally occurring resources, processed without chemicals, with minimal waste and fully compostable at the end of their long life - a blueprint for the future of fashion.
