The Land Gardeners: Henrietta Courtauld & Bridget Elworthy
Henrietta Courtauld and Bridget Elworthy established The Land Gardeners in 2012 to research plant and soil health. Their aim is to work with gardeners and farmers to improve the health of the land – creating healthy plants, gardens and farms brimming with biodiversity and life – all founded on healthy soil. The Land Gardeners ran an organic cut flower business from their garden in Oxfordshire, supplying florists and customers with organic cut flowers (2012-2021). The lack of availability of produce during lockdown led them to change their focus to sending out boxes of their home-grown organic vegetables, fruits and herbs, setting up a pop up farmers market for locals in Oxfordshire with delivery to London.
They have loved collaborating with Nancy Cadogan on their latest book "From Soil to Table" which reflects their over-riding passion for the link between soil health and the food we eat. With ideas and wisdom of how to improve your soil health and with recipes from Lulu Cox they hope to inspire readers to nurture their soils and themselves.
The Land Gardeners have launched their new aerobic compost “Climate Compost” which they are now selling online and they continue to teach both gardeners and farmers how to make aerobic compost, brimming with microbial life. Their other work includes designing gardens specialising in restoring walled gardens in England and abroad. They have published two books with Thames and Hudson – Clive Nichols English Gardens and The Land Gardeners Cut Flowers. www.thelandgardeners.com
