Autumn Leaves Ceramics

It's such a joy to collaborate again with Thyme. This is my third collection and I always love using Caryn's beautiful illustrations as a starting point for my ceramics. Inspired by her autumnal drawings of oak leaves and horse chestnut I used leaves sourced from my garden and Holland park to press into a speckled stoneware clay body.

I love the dappled speckles that appear in the clay after firing and pressing individual leaves into each bowl makes every piece unique. The clay is then hand formed into bowls of varying sizes with my signature rippled edges.

Once fired I hand paint each leaf with stains and oxides to recreate the Bertioli for Thyme linens and finally after being glazed I added a gold lustre trim and details to the oak collection and a copper lustre finish to the horse chestnut. These little glimmers of copper and gold add a touch of elegance to the more rustic glazing and clay.

My goblet vases which are made using a mixture of hand building and throwing and then glazed with reactive crystalline glazes that pool and collect into deep blues and silvery pinks. They make the perfect centre piece and look beautiful on their own or planted with ferns and flowers.
