Winter Gardens

Andrew Montgomery & Clare Foster

1st November 2021 - 4th April 2022

In winter, the garden takes on a new, almost mystical guise. Whether you are drawn to the crisp shapes of a traditional topiary garden or the anarchy of a meadow full of seed heads, there is beauty and wonder to extract from every garden at this time of year.

The Beauty of Winter Gardens exhibition is designed to accompany a new book, Winter Gardens, with text by Clare Foster and photography by Andrew Montgomery. Andrew’s exquisite photographs present the winter garden through a new lens, highlighting shape, texture and structure, and celebrating the elements that make these gardens as beautiful in winter as they are throughout the rest of the year.

With intricate detail and graphic shapes, they are intensely beautiful within the pages of the book – but possibly even more striking and dramatic when hung as prints on the wall. The book includes twelve gardens, some private, others by well-known garden designers, and this exhibition picks out some of the highlights from these fascinating and visually contrasting gardens, with limited edition prints available to buy in Thyme’s shop.
