“The Golden Thread”

Jemma Powell

NOVEMBER 2023 - JANUARY 2024

Cricket Fine Art, in partnership with Thyme, is pleased to present a new exhibition of work by British artist Jemma Powell (b.1980, Sussex), on view in the Tithe Barn in support of Tusk, the international conservation charity, from 10th November to 5th January 2024.

This is the artist’s third solo show in the UK with 25% from the sale of works donated to Tusk.

The exhibition documents Jemma’s recent trip to Kenya as an ambassador for Tusk.  The title, The Golden Thread, is inspired by Caryn Hibbert’s (founder and creative director of Thyme) observations and writing on the birdlife in the water meadows at Thyme. The astonishing migrations of birds, such as the cuckoo and diminutive reed warbler, which travel from sub-Saharan Africa to the meadows at Thyme are the golden thread that links us here in the very heart of England with the wild African plains. This golden thread so clearly illustrates the tangible connections between continents and the importance of conservation in wild spaces around the globe. Jemma has developed this theme and shines a light on conservation, seen through the lens of an artist, as she observes the golden thread between the people of Kenya, the wildlife and the nature that surround them.
